Newsletter Term Four Week Two

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

We welcome back all our students and their families to Term 4 and trust that all have returned to school re-energised and inspired to engage in a positive term, where we focus on quality learning and teaching, as well as enjoying the many celebrations that the end of a school year brings.

As we return to school this term we acknowledge that October is “Mission Month”. In his address to the Diocese, Bishop Brian reminds us all that we are all called to be  ‘missionary’. What does this mean for us in a world where we are experiencing challenging times? At the very core this means to allow the example of how Jesus lived his life to be the role model for who we want to be. To reach out and continue to ask people within our own community and those beyond, “R U OK?” and “How can I help?”.

Later this term we will, as a school community,  participate in a crazy sock, ‘Sock it to Poverty’ Fundraising day. This day, along with lessons taught by teachers, will allow our community focus on making a difference by displaying compassion and kindness towards others.

Take Care

Justin Devlin

The process for student class placement will commence early Term 4. A letter will be sent home today, via our COMPASS portal explaining the process for requesting class placements. Letters should be addressed ‘Attention: Justin Devlin’ and marked ‘Confidential’. Please note, this is not the opportunity to request friendship groupings or specific teachers for your child. While all requests will be noted and discussed, final decisions on placements will be made following careful consultation with teachers. As part of the marking criteria for F1 in Schools. Fast Fusion our Year 6 team has to show evidence of a Marketing Strategy that includes social media. As such, they’ve engaged the company That Marketing Biz to support them in developing this strategy. They have launched Facebook, Twitter & Instagram pages (which are entirely managed by adults) with the handle @fastfusionf1. The students develop the content of these posts and then pass them on to be published.  Please throw your support behind them by liking and following their pages and encouraging your family and friends to jump on board too.

Recycle Soccer Balls

Soccer_ball.jpg

Year 4 students will be making soccer balls from recycled plastic bags as part of their Art this term.

We would appreciate you sending in any plastic shopping bags you may have no use for. These balls will be used later in the term to raise awareness for underprivileged children in Asia.

Thank you

Kindergarten celebrated with a beautiful in-class Liturgy on Friday 16 October.

Please bring in your recycled bread clips on Thursday 29 October for collection. The Environmental Group will come around to each classroom and collect the bread clips. Please keep up the great work of collecting bread clips throughout the school holidays and we will collect them in term four.

Thank you to all our parents, carers, grandparents and friends who took the time to sign our petition for the funding of an electronic sign. Due to the overwhelming response, Gladys Berejiklian has approved a grant of $25,000 to purchase our electronic sign. We appreciate your support.

NEXT P & F MEETING

The next P & F meeting will be held on Monday 26 October via zoom at 6:30 pm. Link will be available closer to the date.

Life presents us with many joys and challenges, it may be the birth of a child, the loss of employment or the death of a family member. We are privileged to, and benefit from, living in a community that cares for us, no matter what our circumstances. At times, we may find ourselves in a position where some extra care and support would be welcomed to help us through a period of hardship or need. If you are in need of support, please contact Sister Julie on 0418 674 452 who will respond to you confidentially.

Hat.jpg

18 months ago we introduced our new school hat to St Anthony's with the expectation that every student will be wearing the new hat by 2021. This plan is still very much in action and we would like parents to consider buying a new hat from the uniform shop before the end of this year. Thank you for your support.

The uniform shop will be open on Fridays from 9:00 am for orders that have been emailed or handed in to the office. Parents will NOT be allowed to enter the hall for any face to face  purchases, as advised by the Catholic Education Office. Orders can be emailed to the school via info@sapdow.catholic.edu.au

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

The second Sacrament for 2020 will be Confirmation and dates are as follows;

  • Session One - Week 9 (Term 3)
  • Session Two - Week 10 (Term 3)
  • Session Three - Week 1 (Term 4)
  • Session Four - Week 2 (Term 4)
  • Sacrament - Wednesday 4 November 6:30 pm

                          -Thursday 5 November 6:30 pm

                          -Friday 6 November 7:30 pm
