Newsletter Term Three Week Two

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

It was with a sense of hope and joy that we have welcomed our students and families back to school this term. Hope is a fascinating emotion. Hope is an outreaching desire with expectancy that something good will happen. In the scripture passage from the book of Jeremiah it is the conviction that no matter the circumstances, God's plans for our lives are "for good, to give you a future and a hope".

Covid-19 and the localised realities of the pandemic in Picton certainly bring home the daily uncertainty of what we are facing and challenges our positive mindset to be a hope-filled community. St Mary of the Cross Mackillop wrote in 1871 that we need to ‘stay calm and be full of hope’. Sometimes this is easier said than done. This term we will focus on a positive mindset that resonates across the whole school community and provides the tools to face the challenges we are all presented with on a daily basis.

One of these challenges will be next Friday 7 August, when we will celebrate the Feast Of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop. Her actual Feast Day is Saturday 8 August. In a ‘normal world’, our families would be looking forward, with a sense of hope and anticipation, to join the school community in a day of celebration. Due to our Phase Three Covid-19 restrictions, parents are unable to attend on-site school activities. The students will celebrate the day by participating in a classroom liturgy using an online video link developed by our REC’s Mrs Brown and Mrs Cordingley, Sr Julie and our Year Six Spirituality Team.

We are truly finding it difficult not having parents and carers within the school. Your presence in the school brings so much to our school community, and your own child/ren’s learning and growth in faith. One innovative way we will attempt to involve our parents will be during our Parents & Friends meeting next Monday 3 August at 6:30pm. For the first time this meeting can be attended by a zoom link that will be emailed to each parent. I look forward with a sense of hope that a good number of parents will attend the meeting via online link. More information can be found in this newsletter and will be sent home via our COMPASS portal.

Please continue to stay safe and healthy.

TerraCycle and Kwik Lok have partnered to create a free recycling program for used bread bag closures. Once collected, the bread closures are cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remoulded to make new recycled products.

Collect your bread clips at home, ask family members to do the same and then once a month send them in to school when you see a “Collection” notice in the newsletter.

Another simple way we can all make a difference!

Issue 5 Book Club

The catalogues will be sent home this week.

If you wish to purchase any books for your children using LOOP app.

We are asking that all LOOP orders be completed by Friday 7 August for processing.

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

St Anthony's first Sacrament for 2020 will be the Sacrament of the Reconciliation. Dates are as follows;

Session One - 22 July

Session Two - 29 July

Session Three - 5 August

Session Four - 12 August

SACRAMENT -  Friday 14 August

The uniform shop will be open on Friday from 9:00 am for orders that have been emailed or handed in to the office. Parents will NOT be allowed to enter the hall for any face to face  purchases, as advised by the Catholic Education Office. Orders can be emailed to the school via info@sapdow.catholic.edu.au

Please find attached some Frequentley Asked Questions regarding School Fees and COVID-19.

A consent form for use of student's images was sent home to every family. Parents signing this form gives St Anthony's permission to celebrate their child's achievements in our newsletters, allows parents to view their child at sporting events or excursions, on posters around the school and Facebook with discretion. If you wish NOT to give permission for your child's image to be used in any of the points 1-6 please tick the NO box, sign and return the form back to school. If this option is picked OR if we Do Not receive a form back for your child, we will remove your child's image from any photo that will be used by St Anthony's. If you require another form please see attached.
