Newsletter Term Two Week Ten

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

As we draw towards the end of the term and reflect on the first half of the year, a range of emotions will be brought to the surface.

Firstly, a deep sigh of relief. The first half of the year has presented us all with some challenging times. As a community we have faced fires, floods and pandemics. This has certainly tested our resilience. In the midst of these continuous challenging moments, the strength and the resolve of the whole community continued to shine through.

We can also reflect on the first of the year with a sense of pride. I am certainly proud of the way that our school responded to Covid-19. I can’t speak highly enough about our staff. They deserve a medal, in the shape of a two week holiday break, where they can ‘down tools’ and enjoy the rest and reinvigoration of doing very little. As a group of professionals who give so much of themselves in the interests of the students they teach, their dedication and passion should be acknowledged.

Finally, my personal feelings flow from a sense of gratitude and appreciation. I am deeply grateful to belong to the community of St Anthony’s. We are constantly reminded that as a Catholic Parish School, we are so blessed to be in partnership. The partnership between parish, home and school is an integral part of who we are and how we strive to be better. This positive partnership has never been more evident than over the past few months.

May the upcoming holiday break be a time for rest and relaxation. Please continue to stay safe and healthy.

Take Care

Mr Justin Devlin

Principal

As Semester Two draws to a close, we look back at the year. Who would believe it could hold so much in terms of Pandemics and the like? Just as we get the children resettled it is holidays again. I hope you have all stayed safe and well. Attached to the Newsletter are two sheets: A guide to  Self-Care and Well-being during times of uncertainty for parents, and Ideas to Help the children and young people in times of uncertainty. These may give you some help during the holidays. Hopefully by Term 3 we can resettle quickly and move forward. If at any time you need to talk, please feel free to contact me through the school. Thank you.
Sr Julie Simpson

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

St Anthony's first Sacrament for 2020 will be the Sacrament of the Reconciliation. Dates are as follows;

Session One - 22 July

Session Two - 29 July

Session Three - 5 August

Session Four - 12 August

SACRAMENT -  Friday 14 August

The uniform shop will be open on Friday from 9:00 am for normal trading. Alternatively you can email your order through to school via info@sapdow.catholic.edu.au

A consent form for use of student's images was sent home to every family. Parents signing this form gives St Anthony's permission to celebrate their child's achievements in our newsletters, allows parents to view their child at sporting events or excursions, on posters around the school and Facebook with discretion. If you wish NOT to give permission for your child's image to be used in any of the points 1-6 please tick the NO box, sign and return the form back to school. If this option is picked OR if we Do Not receive a form back for your child, we will remove your child's image from any photo that will be used by St Anthony's. If you require another form please see attached.
