Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,
Last weekend Parishes throughout the Diocese of Wollongong entered the season of Pentecost - a season of the Church’s year that marks the ‘birthday’ of the Church. Last Sunday's Gospel reminded us about the integral connection between the gifts of peace and forgiveness and the action of the Holy Spirit. The reconciling presence of Christ is celebrated in the Church’s sacramental life and is also to be a way of life for Christians. In situations of conflict, we are to be agents of peace and harmony among people.
National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week
Last Friday was National Sorry Day and this week marks the acknowledgement of National Reconciliation Week.
This year National Sorry Day was on Friday 26 May and is a day when we pause to remember the Stolen Generations of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
It leads us into the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation and National Reconciliation Week which is held each year between 27 May and 3 June. The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023 is, Be A Voice for Future Generations. Reconciliation is about building a better nation; a more united Australia that respects and takes pride in 65,000 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, stories and achievements; an Australia that believes in the right of First Nations peoples to make decisions about our lives and our communities; and an Australia that stands opposed to racism, inequity and injustice. This is a very important time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Here at St Anthony’s we will be acknowledging the key themes in the classrooms with the support of our wonderful Aboriginal Education Officer, Miss Bronte Benson and through the leadership of Mrs Jocelyn Stradmann, who has coordinated a number initiatives leading to our Reconciliation Week Assembly tomorrow Friday 2 June, commencing at 2:00pm. I look forward to parents joining with our school community to acknowledge the important event

On Tuesday 13 June we celebrate St Anthony of Padua feast day with a whole school Mass at 10am in the school hall. Everyone in our community is warmly invited to join the children to celebrate our patron Saint’s feast day.
After Mass, the annual St Anthony’s Awards will be handed out to the students who display kindness and service to others.
After lunch the fun will continue with open classrooms, where parents/grandparents/special friends can walk through their child’s classroom and view their artwork.
At St Anthony’s, we implement the Positive Behaviours for Learning (PB4L) framework. PB4L is an organisational framework for behaviour support to enhance respectful relationships and engagement of students in their learning. It is an evidence-based framework for implementation within all Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong school communities, Kindergarten to Year 12.
When responding to inappropriate behaviours at St Anthony’s, we refer to a corrective response sequence with a focus on learning. Please refer to the Classroom Correction Sequence, the Playground Correction Sequence and an Explanation of the Card System for further information.
If you have any questions about PB4L, please feel free to contact me via the office.

Sacramental Programs
Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.
Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.
A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.
The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.
