Newsletter Term Two Week Four

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

In the first few weeks of this term Mrs Ferguson and I have had the pleasure to interview new and existing families who are seeking to enrol their child in Kindergarten for 2024. This enrolment process always provides the school with the wonderful opportunity to gain feedback, both positive and constructive, about the school. It has been very affirming to hear how St Anthony’s has such positive standing within the wider Picton community. I believe this stems from the beautiful and caring students who attend our school, the supportive parent body and the dedicated staff who give so generously of their time.

One of the key initiatives we implemented in Term One was open tours of the school that were led by our Year Six leaders. Can I say how proud I am of our Year Six leaders. The positive feedback from the families speaks highly of the fine young men and women that they are becoming and highlights, in a very real way, how they can live out the words of our school prayer, to be ‘in your service to do good for others’.

Student Attendance

Did you know that if students miss as little as eight days in a school term, they will have missed a year of education by the time they finish primary school. Our benchmark across the diocese is 95% attendance. You are encouraged to read through the attached factsheet to provide you with information about attendance. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Take Care

After Tuesday, starting on Friday 26 May and running for 4 consecutive weeks students will have the opportunity to join the Auskick Clinic from 3:30 - 4:30pm on our school oval. If you choose to sign your child up to this program, students need to be collected as normal afternoon dismissal from St Anthony's staff, changed in the bathrooms and delivered to the AFL Auskick staff and parents must stay present for the clinic. Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.
