Newsletter Term Three Week Six

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

Today, as a school community, we participated in our Cyclic Review. The review was facilitated by an external panel that included

Mr Mark Raue - Professional Assistant to the Director

Mr Noel Henry - Head of Service, School Improvement Primary

Mrs Kay Blundell - Senior Professional Officer K-12

Mrs Carolyn Hadley - Head of Human Resource Services

Mr Simon Abernethy - Principal of St Francis Catholic College K-12, Edmondson Park

Our last Cyclic Review occurred in June 2014. The purpose of the review is to validate the strategic intentions of our School Review and Improvement journey over the last five years and provide some clear recommendations for the school moving forward into the next five years.

Throughout the day, the panel met with various members of staff, a student panel and representatives from our parent community. Overall, the day had a true feeling of positive affirmation for the good work that has occurred over the last five years. We are truly blessed to have a dedicated group of teachers and support staff, students whose kindness and enthusiasm for all that is joyful and good, and a wider school community made of parents, carers, grandparents and parishioners whose support and generosity allows our school to ‘be a catholic community built on the foundations and charism of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop and lived out in the traditions of St Anthony of Padua’.

In the weeks to come I look forward to sharing with the school community the recommendations of the panel.

Take Care

Thank you to all those parents who have returned your fete surveys. If you haven’t, we would really appreciate you doing so asap as we value your suggestions.

Wouldn’t it be nice to make your fortune off an instant scratchie from our Money Tree? To help make this a possibility, donate a scratchie to be placed on the tree. Tickets will be sold at the fete.

If you have any unwanted Coles Little Shop 2 Collectables or Woolworths Lion King Ooshies, Kindergarten would love them for Mathematics and Developmental Play.

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

St Anthony's second Sacrament for 2019 will be the Sacrament of the Confirmation. Dates are as follows;
