"God of wisdom

Be with our children as they begin a new school year.

Bless them and their teachers and staff.

Give them the strength and grace as their bodies grow;

wisdom and knowledge to their minds as they search for understanding;

and peace in their hearts.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen."

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

On behalf of Fr. Peter and the staff at St Anthony's I wish you a warm welcome back to the 2023 school year. It was such a pleasure to see our students enter the school with happy smiles and greeting their teachers and friends with much enthusiasm.

Our focus during the first days of school has been to revisit our expectations of being Respectful … Respectful to Ourselves, Respectful to Others, Respectful to Property and Respectful to our Learning. As a school we have focused on understanding what the word respectful looks like, sounds like and feels like. Our patron saint, St Anthony of Padua wrote, “Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak.” For our whole school community the sense of action for the benefit of others will certainly be a whole school focus in 2023.

A very special welcome to all those who have selected St Anthony’s Catholic Parish Primary School for their child’s education commencing this year. We are glad to have you join our school and parish family. I would like to warmly welcome the following new staff members to our school community, Miss Katie Chalker (Year 1 Blue Classroom Teacher), Mrs Katrina Collimore (Year 3 Red Classroom Teacher), Miss Lara Conti (Year 4 White Classroom Teacher), Miss Kaitlyn Paroz (Year 5 White Classroom Teacher), Mrs Sarah Batty (Library School Support Officer), Mrs Kellie Fiumara (Library School Support Officer) and Mrs Allison Jones (Senior School Support Officer - School Office), who join our school community. Please know that your presence amongst us adds to the richness of our community.

For me St Anthony’s is about building on the sense of community. A key aspect of our school is to work in partnership to ensure that the children are at the very heart of all that we do and that they continue to learn in a safe and supportive environment, and have opportunities to explore their faith and learn about themselves while interacting positively with their peers.

Take Care

Mr Justin Devlin

Principal

Throughout the January pupil vacation St Anthony’s school underwent some significant maintenance work including:

  • Painting of all external posts and the updated blue markings to assist with the safe identification and awareness of our school posts
  • Replacement of rusted down pipes
  • Concreting/Rendering/Re-painting of facia at the entrance of school hall
  • Additional fencing near staff/student entrance to the school office
  • Updated maintenance of school gardens/pathways

I would like to express my gratitude to the Catholic Education Properties Team for organising the work over the pupil vacation period. The next part of the Playground upgrade will be the implementation of a  Moduplay area that has been supported with a $50000 grant from the Catholic Club Campbelltown.

In 2023 staff, students, parents and carers had an opportunity to provide feedback about the strengths and areas of growth for the school. This feedback was used by staff and the School Leadership Team in consultation with the Catholic Education Office to develop the St Anthony’s Annual Improvement plan for 2023. This year  will see the staff at St Anthony’s focus on a number of Annual Improvement Goals which are briefly outlined below.

  1. By the end of 2023, students will have improved their ability to comprehend texts read, after topic knowledge and key vocabulary have been taught prior to and during reading.
  2. By the end of 2023, staff will develop a shared understanding of pedagogies that target the affective, cognitive and operative domains of mathematics so that we can support student engagement in mathematics.

Teacher professional learning will be an integral component of the St Anthony’s Annual Improvement Plan. Teachers will be released from their teaching load throughout the year to engage in professional learning targeted to the above annual improvement goals. We are looking forward to this year's targeted learning and partnership with our parents and carers.

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

Parents will NOT be allowed to enter the hall for any face to face  purchases, as advised by the Catholic Education Office. Orders can be emailed to the school via info@sapdow.catholic.edu.au Orders must be at the office by 9am Fridays.
