Newsletter Term Three Week Four

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

This term has provided our community with many opportunities to come together and highlight the wonderful features of our school. St Mary of the Cross Mackillop Feast Day and our Parent Information Night provided students, staff and the wider school community to engage in coming together as a Catholic community.

Sr_Julie.png

Our Mary Mackillop Feast Day celebration was a day when we were reminded of  how the charism of St Mary Mackillop is certainly alive in our school. The Mass, the blessing of the Courageous Corey Wall, our picnic lunch and the open classrooms made for a great day of celebration. Sr Julie also reminded us of the wonderful journey of dedication and service the Sisters of St Joseph have given to Catholic education.

For those who attended our Parent Information last Wednesday night, we were so blessed to have Lee Casuscelli speak about how we can cater for the individual needs of students with specific learning, social and emotional needs. Lee brought her own honest story to the presentation and was so engaging. It was so pleasing to observe nearly fifty parents and twenty three staff come together in conversation and help build a collective understanding. A special thankyou to Isabel and Lily who provided baby-sitting duties and to our hardworking and dedicated P&F who provided supper.

Take Care

Mr Justin Devlin

Principal

In week six of this term the school will participate in a Cyclic Review process. The review will be facilitated by an external panel made up of members from the Catholic Education Office Leadership team and a principal from one of our Diocesan Catholic Schools. Each school in the Diocese of Wollongong participates in a Cyclic Review once every five years. Our last Cyclic Review occurred in June 2014. The purpose of the review is to validate the strategic intentions of our School Review and Improvement journey over the last five years and provide some clear recommendations for the school moving forward into the next five years.

A key aspect of the review is for members of the panel to meet with a parent representative group at 10:15am on the day for approximately forty five minutes. If you have a keen interest to be a part of this parent session please make contact with myself via the office or by email.

More information about the Cyclic Review will be sent in the weeks to come.

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

St Anthony's second Sacrament for 2019 will be the Sacrament of the Confirmation. Dates are as follows;
