Newsletter Term Three Week Ten

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

As we draw towards the end of Term Three I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the variety of events and activities that speak to the very essence of who we are as a catholic school community. The return to participating in a mini version of school athletics carnival, our Fathers Day Stall, Daffodil Day and the opportunity to dress up and celebrate a Book Week Parade both highlighted the importance of connecting with the wider school  community. The positive feedback, both verbally and through the smiles and laughter from the students, carers, parents and grandparents showed why we value who we are as a school community.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 21 September, will be the last day for students for this term. On Thursday, a public holiday, we will take a moment to give thanks and pray for Queen Elizabeth II. We give thanks for Her Majesty's life. As a woman of faith, she made a real difference in the world. May she rest in peace, in the loving arms of our God.

This Friday the staff will be attending a Spirituality Day centred on nurturing compassion in times of change. In these times of change compassion heals and connects us to ourselves, the earth, its creatures and all humanity. As a staff we will explore the spirituality qualities and movements of compassion that lived in the heart of Jesus and St Mary of the Cross Mackillop.

St Mary of the Cross said:

“Be a gift of love and compassion for one another.”

May I wish all our families a restful holiday break, that is centred on family time and that all our students come back next term energised for Term Four.

Take Care

Mr Justin Devlin

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

Parents will NOT be allowed to enter the hall for any face to face  purchases, as advised by the Catholic Education Office. Orders can be emailed to the school via info@sapdow.catholic.edu.au Orders must be at the office by 9am Fridays.

Every year, by law, we have to receive consent from parents to photograph and use images of your child. The photos taken will be displayed in newsletters and/or Facebook to celebrate the fun times and achievements of students. Consent forms have been sent home today with your child, if you consent or do not consent to your child's photo being taken please tick the appropriate box and return the form to school.

If we do not receive a form for your child we will not include your child in photos.
