Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,
This week is always an exciting time for many schools around Australia. This week is ‘Book Week’. In speaking with students and staff there is an air of anticipation around the activities we have planned for tomorrow. We look forward to the characters that will join us and the opportunity to celebrate all that is good about the joy of reading a book. Books, especially fiction books, allow us to become a part of another world, a story that brings to life our imagination and our love of all that is good about reading. For me I actually enjoy the physical nature of holding a real book, where you turn the pages and become so immersed in the story that you can’t put the book down.
The other key element of our Book Week celebrations is the opportunity to ‘be community’. To allow all members of the school community, students, staff and our wider community of parents and carers to come together and enjoy a celebration that has not occurred for a number of years. Like our Mini-Athletics carnival, we are returning to a sense of normality where our students can laugh and smile, enjoying the very essence of who we strive to be … A catholic community who values the opportunity to celebrate and participate together in a range of activities and experiences.
As I stated in our last newsletter more so than ever, what our world needs, what our school needs is the opportunity to laugh and to celebrate the dignity of each child and allow our families to feel welcome and in partnership.. Let’s follow St Anthony’s example by living out this message in our relationships and communities.
Take Care
Mr Justin Devlin
Principal
On behalf of the school, I would like to announce that Kate Knight has resigned from her teaching position at St Anthony's. Kate has been a valuable member of our school community for the past 13 years contributing to the life of the school and the Parish. We wish Kate all the best in her future teaching endeavours.
Please see below a letter addressed to the school community from Kate.
Dear Parents/ Carers,
This letter is to let you know that I have resigned from my teaching position at St Anthony’s. My past 13 years of teaching at St Anthony’s have been nothing short of rewarding. Working with your children has changed my life for the better as I came to work each day being amazed with their curiosity and creativity. I'll always keep my memories of teaching your children close to my heart and look back fondly upon all the experiences I've had.
I look forward to the new adventures ahead of me as I continue my teaching career working in Infants, fulfilling my passion and dedication in this area.
I'll genuinely miss working with the students, families and teachers at St Anthony’s but will now enjoy my role in this community as a parent.
Thank you for all the support that I have received over the many years working with your children.
Sincerely,
Kate Knight

TUESDAY 30 AUGUST IN SCHOOL HALL OR VIA ZOOM
Year 6 Parents and Carers are invited to join us for a meeting on Tuesday 30 August at 2:15 pm in the school hall or via zoom. This meeting will clarify plans and the coordination of the Year 6 farewell activities.
Please keep in mind that this will be a general conversation regarding ideas and parents will be able to nominate themselves to coordinate different activities towards the end of year. This will also give those parents who volunteered to help on a particular job, the chance to ask questions and clarify any concerns.
Link will be sent out via our Compass Parent Portal on Tuesday morning.
Our next Parents & Friends Meeting which will be held on Friday 2 September 2022 at 2:00 pm in the school library or via zoom.
We will be seeking nominations to elect our Parents & Friends President and Vice President. If members of our parent community wish to nominate another parent/caregiver they need to have, in writing, their own name, the name of the person they are nominating and a clear statement stating that they have discussed this nomination with the nominated person and that they are willing to accept this nomination. This letter needs to be handed in to the office, addressed to the Principal, no later than 3:30pm, Monday 29 August 2022. Once nominations have been received, we will be in a position to announce, via a letter, who the nominated persons are. It should be noted that the nominated person needs to be in an attendance at the meeting.
At St Anthony’s, we implement the Positive Behaviours for Learning (PB4L) framework. PB4L is an organisational framework for behaviour support to enhance respectful relationships and engagement of students in their learning. It is an evidence-based framework for implementation within all Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong school communities, Kindergarten to Year 12.
When responding to inappropriate behaviours at St Anthony’s, we refer to a corrective response sequence with a focus on learning. Please refer to the Classroom Correction Sequence, the Playground Correction Sequence and an Explanation of the Card System for further information.
If you have any questions about PB4L, please feel free to contact me via the office.

Sacramental Programs
Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.
Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.
- Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
- Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
- Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation
A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.
The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.
Every year, by law, we have to receive consent from parents to photograph and use images of your child. The photos taken will be displayed in newsletters and/or Facebook to celebrate the fun times and achievements of students. Consent forms have been sent home today with your child, if you consent or do not consent to your child's photo being taken please tick the appropriate box and return the form to school.
If we do not receive a form for your child we will not include your child in photos.
Parents will NOT be allowed to enter the hall for any face to face purchases, as advised by the Catholic Education Office. Orders can be emailed to the school via info@sapdow.catholic.edu.au Orders must be at the office by 9am Fridays.
