Newsletter Term Two Week Ten

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

It was a wonderful experience to see the Parish Community come together to celebrate First Holy Communion with the students from Year Three and other students from our school and the Parish Community. The joy of a Catholic school community is to be provided with the opportunity to be in partnership with the Parish in celebrating these important Sacramental events.

This partnership is integral to building a school culture centred on values that uphold our Catholic traditions. We are blessed to have Fr Peter, our Parish Priest, who is very supportive of providing our families with many opportunities to grow in their faith. The other key aspect of this valued partnership is a shared understanding of expectations and responsibilities. I would ask that parents take special note of the message in this newsletter regarding expectations when parents are attending school Masses and Liturgies in our school hall or in our Parish Churches.

I pray that the holiday break provides us with the opportunity to spend time as a family and enjoy the time to rest. Can I take this opportunity to humbly say thank you to the dedicated staff who give so much of their time in providing a learning environment centred on the needs of each and every individual student.

Take Care

Mr Justin Devlin

Principal

Sadly it has come to our attention, from members of St Anthony’s community that the lack of appropriate behaviour and reverence during Mass at Picton on Fridays is very disturbing to people who wish to participate in the liturgy in a prayerful and personal way as they encounter their God. The Mass is not a place for social interaction amongst friends and acquaintances. It is not a place for coffee and food, nor is it a place for phones which ring and disturb the congregation and the Priest who is celebrating the Mass. We welcome all parents and carers to Masses and Liturgies but please demonstrate the appropriate respectful and reverent behaviour.

Rugby Gala Day

On Thursday 4 July 27 students from St Anthony's will represent our school at the 2019 Group 6 Razorback All Schools Carnival. We would like to wish all the children the best of luck at the carnival and we thank Mrs Spiteri and Mrs Godden for organising and attending the event.

On Thursday 7 June, 80 students (9 teams) participated in the Western Region Netball Gala Day at Coronation Park, Minto.   The sun was shining, providing us with a glorious day for playing netball. All students took to the courts with great enthusiasm.  As always, the students represented their school with pride and were a credit to St Anthony’s both on and off the court. A very big thank you goes to the wonderful parents who managed the teams on the day.  Without your assistance it would not be possible for us to send so many teams.

Well done to all teams!

Mrs Bull

We would like to congratulate Olivia (Yr6) and Everlyn Cox  (Yr3)  on the safe arrival of their little brother Zeke. We hope this is a wonderful time filled with lots of joy and happiness for your whole family.

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

St Anthony's second Sacrament for 2019 will be the Sacrament of the Confirmation. Dates are as follows;

Parent Meeting - Tuesday 23 July 2.00pm
