Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,
During these challenging times it becomes somewhat challenging to find reasons to express gratitude. There are many benefits to expressing gratitude. Not only does expressing gratitude build on our positive emotions, it strengthens relationships between various people within a community. As a school community we are all incredibly grateful for the work of the students, our staff and parents/carers in ensuring continuity of learning for our students at the beginning of this term.
A lovely form of prayer meditation that supports the opportunity to be grateful is called the Examen. The Examen Prayer invites the opportunity to reflect on one’s day and look forward to tomorrow with a sense of positivity. One version of this prayer can be said as a family and involves:
- One person names the highs and lows of his/her day.
- After that person names the highs and lows of the day, another person in the family says a prayer for that person, thanking God for the highs and asking God to help that person with the lows.
- Every family member gets a turn to share the highs and lows of their day, and every family member gets a turn to say a prayer for another person.
- Close with an Our Father or other prayer.
In the days to come I invite families to take the opportunity to join together to share in this prayer together.
We are also very mindful of the wellbeing of our families. I am aware that some families may be struggling in various ways at this time. I encourage any family to reach out to the school for support. We have mechanisms in place for the pastoral care of our families. If the matter is of a personal or private nature, please email the office and ask for me or your child's teacher to call you.
Take Care
Justin Devlin
Principal
After our first week of home learning there are three key messages that all parents and carers need to be mindful of:
- For students who are staying at home, it is mandatory for parents to ensure that our attendance google form is completed each day. If the form is not completed then a child will be marked absent from school
- From a wellbeing perspective please note that our weekly home learning grids are our guide for key learning that needs to be completed. Please be reassured that if all tasks are not completed, this is Ok! As teachers we acknowledge that some days, in some moments, due a range of factors the reality of having a break, enjoying the sunshine in the backyard is far more beneficial than the task at hand.
- We are only a phone call away, a see saw message, a google post, an email, post on our feedback form on the home learning. Please continue to utilise the support of the school. Our role is to continue to engage with the community in order to provide as much support as possible.
In the challenges of the weeks ahead let us continue to pray for each other.

Before and After School Care
We are still hoping to have Bishop Brian confirm our children at a 3:00 pm Mass at St Anthony's Church, Tahmoor on Saturday 21 August. However in the current Covid conditions it would be most unwise and illegal to have any public meetings to prepare for Confirmation in the next few weeks.
Booklets will be available for pick up, time and date to be advised, from St Anthony's Primary School for those students who will be participating in the Confirmation program. Parents who wish for their child to be confirmed will work through the booklet with their child as preparation for the sacrament. There will be a 'Confirmation Google Classroom' set up if you have any questions. We will further prepare the students with a preparation and practice session for the Sacrament on Friday 20 August at 7:00 pm. Arrangements will also be made for students to attend Reconciliation in the week prior to the Confirmation Sacrament.
Please consent to the event notification on our Compass Parent Portal no later than Thursday 22 July, telling us whether you would like your child to participate in the Sacrament of Confirmation.
If you would not like your child to participate in this program please decline to the event.
In order to complete the enrolment process, parents will be required to pay a $20.00 fee per child to cover the cost of the resources used to support the program and complete the questions required.
All payments and enrolments must be completed by Thursday 22 July, 2021.
Attached are the steps to help our parents, carers and students better understand the gold and silver sticker chart award system.
We would like to welcome our parents, friends and wider community to our next P & F Meeting which will be held via zoom on Monday 26 July at 6:30 pm. The zoom link will be sent out via our Compass Portal closer to the date.
Life presents us with many joys and challenges, it may be the birth of a child, the loss of employment or the death of a family member. We are privileged to, and benefit from, living in a community that cares for us, no matter what our circumstances. At times, we may find ourselves in a position where some extra care and support would be welcomed to help us through a period of hardship or need. If you are in need of support, please contact Sister Julie on 0418 674 452 who will respond to you confidentially.
Sacramental Programs
Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.
Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.
- Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
- Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
- Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation
A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.
The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.
