Newsletter Term Two Week Eight

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

Last weekend we came together as a Parish community to pray for and celebrate with our students in Year Three and other children within the St Anthony’s Parish community, who made their First Holy Communion. The word communion means to be united with; Catholics believe that in Holy Communion we are united in a special way with Jesus Christ. It was an absolute privilege to witness the look on our children’s face as they received Jesus for the first time and were able to feel that special connection with our Lord Jesus Christ.

In the weeks ahead I invite everyone to take a moment to pray for our First Holy Communicants:

Lord Jesus,

Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time. May it be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist.

Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.

Thank you for their innocence and goodness.

May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament.

Amen.

Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to celebrate our St Anthony’s Feast Day with a Liturgy of the Word celebration, followed by open classrooms and a picnic lunch.. As a Catholic community, the opportunity to acknowledge our patron saint, St Anthony of Padua, is always a special occasion. In his writings, St Anthony reminded us that the greatest gift we give is to know the person of Jesus and through actions and words, see the face of our Lord in ourselves and in the relationship we have with others. In light of the world we have experienced over the past year, I join with the whole community in looking with a sense of anticipation and more importantly, a sense of joy to the opportunity tomorrow to come together as one Catholic community.

Take Care

Due to the weather forecast on Wednesday, predicting a cold winters day with rain, we have decided to modify our Feast  Day celebrations.

The modifications are:
*10:00am – Feast Day Liturgy in School Hall. Kinder Parents, New families and parents of students receiving St Anthony’s awards are invited to attend the Feast Day Liturgy.
*10:45am-Open Classrooms … All parents /carers are invited to visit classrooms
*11:25am-Picnic Lunch … Students and families are invited to enjoy a picnic lunch (Sausage Sizzle, drink, cookie is provided for each student by the P&F.) Nb…sausage sandwiches can be purchased by parents/carers on the day. Depending on weather conditions the picnic lunch may need to occur in classrooms.

It is important that in line with our Covid safe plan, all parents/carers  who are visiting the school will need to use the QR Code to register their attendance.

We are looking forward to a day where we can come together as one catholic community.

On Saturday evening and Sunday morning, 62 students from St Anthony's and our Parish received the sacrament of Holy Communion. The staff of St Anthony's would like to Congratulate every student for their respectful and reverent manner they presented while receiving Jesus for the first time, we wish you everlasting happiness, peace and joy.

Thank you to Father Peter, Mr Paul Wyatt, Mrs Julie Smith, Mrs Stephanie Brown and Ms Jocelyn Westbrook for their hard work and dedication in organising and preparing the students to receive their sacrament.

Please be aware that the staff car park at the front office is not an option for parent parking when picking up your child/ren from the front gate of an afternoon. This is a matter of safety for students, parents and staff.

We appreciate your understanding and support.

Attached are the steps to help our parents, carers and students better understand the gold and silver sticker chart award system.

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

Life presents us with many joys and challenges, it may be the birth of a child, the loss of employment or the death of a family member. We are privileged to, and benefit from, living in a community that cares for us, no matter what our circumstances. At times, we may find ourselves in a position where some extra care and support would be welcomed to help us through a period of hardship or need. If you are in need of support, please contact Sister Julie on 0418 674 452 who will respond to you confidentially.

The uniform shop will be open on Fridays from 9:00 am for orders that have been emailed or handed in to the office. Parents will NOT be allowed to enter the hall for any face to face  purchases, as advised by the Catholic Education Office. Orders can be emailed to the school via info@sapdow.catholic.edu.au

Every year, by law, we have to receive consent from parents to photograph and use images of your child. The photos taken will be displayed in newsletters and/or Facebook to celebrate the fun times and achievements of students. Consent forms have been sent home today with your child, if you consent or do not consent to your child's photo being taken please tick the appropriate box and return the form to school.

If we do not receive a form for your child we will not include your child in photos.
