Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,
Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending, along with our school captains Charlie and Tomas, a Diocesan Mass at the Co-Cathedral at Fairy Meadow to celebrate 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Brian and during his homily he reflected on the very purpose of why we have Catholic schools. He reminded us of the importance of providing our students with the ‘language of God’. This language is centred in both action and word and relies on the school supporting families in allowing their children to live their life to the full.
In the gospel of John we are reminded through the example of Jesus, that we will have life and to the best of our ability we will be able to live to the full. When I hear this statement I always ask myself, “What does this really mean?'' Fundamentally this is centred around our moral purpose as a Catholic school and note that this has not changed since the doors were opened back in 1880 by the Sisters of St Joseph. We want the students to ‘grow in respect and honesty’. We wish for them to show kindness, peace, joy, love, patience, self-control, goodness. We also want them to experience anger, sadness, challenges and the word ‘no’. By experiencing the whole gamut of emotions we then allow our children to be their complete selves, to be completely whole.
As I reflected on the history of St Anthony’s I wondered what the three original nuns, Sisters Veronica, Stephanie and Columba would say. I am sure they would make positive comments about the physical layout of the school but more importantly they would see the face of God in our students and smile, with a sense of knowing that what their hopes and dreams 140 years ago are still the hopes and dreams of our Catholic community today.
In the weeks to come I look forward to our St Anthony’s Feast Day where we will be able to come together to celebrate the very essence of who we are as a Catholic school. More information regarding our Feast Day is attached to this newsletter.
Take Care

Principal
St Anthony's has been made aware of a number of incidents at the back gate carpark where the safety of students and parents has been at risk. Especially during afternoon pick up, the carpark is over flowing with cars and parents may be in a hurry to get to afternoon activities. For the safety of everyone can you please slow down, take extra time to look behind you before reversing, and please park in the designnated carparks. The RTA is aware that cars have been parked in a NO STOPPING zone and will conduct regular checks. The safety of our St Anthony's family and the wider community is of great importance and we thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Before and After School Care
St Anthony of Padua feast day is celebrated every year on 13 June and because this year it falls on a Sunday, our school will join together on Wednesday 9 June and celebrate St Anthony of Padua with a whole school Liturgy at 10am in the school hall.
After the Liturgy, the annual St Anthony’s Awards will be handed out to the students who display kindness and service to others, followed by a picnic lunch and open classrooms where parents/carers can view student’s artwork.
In order to maintain Covid safe practices 2 parents/carers from each family will be allowed to attend.
The Parents’ and Friends’ are kindly providing a free sausage sizzle lunch and popper for the children to be served immediately after the Liturgy. Parents, Carers and Grandparents are encouraged to stay for lunch and have a picnic with your children. Sausage sandwiches will be sold for $2 each. To help with ordering of sausages for parents, if you would like to purchase a sausage sandwich please indicate how many on the note attached and return it to the school office by Friday 4 June. Payment can be made on the day.
Looking forward to celebrating this important day with you.

P & F MEETING
We invite all St Anthony's parents, carers and friends to join our P & F for a meeting on Friday 4 June at 1:00 pm in the school library.
Life presents us with many joys and challenges, it may be the birth of a child, the loss of employment or the death of a family member. We are privileged to, and benefit from, living in a community that cares for us, no matter what our circumstances. At times, we may find ourselves in a position where some extra care and support would be welcomed to help us through a period of hardship or need. If you are in need of support, please contact Sister Julie on 0418 674 452 who will respond to you confidentially.

Sacramental Programs
Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.
Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.
- Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
- Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
- Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation
A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.
The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.
St Anthony's first Sacrament for 2021 will be the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Dates are as follows;
Session One - 10 - 14 May
Session Two - 17 - 21 May
Session Three - 24 - 28 May
Session Four - 31 May - 4 June
SACRAMENT - Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 June
Every year, by law, we have to receive consent from parents to photograph and use images of your child. The photos taken will be displayed in newsletters and/or Facebook to celebrate the fun times and achievements of students. Consent forms have been sent home today with your child, if you consent or do not consent to your child's photo being taken please tick the appropriate box and return the form to school.
If we do not receive a form for your child we will not include your child in photos.
