Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,
Welcome back to the beginning of a new term!
We hope that the holiday break was enjoyable for you and your family. During this term there will continue to be opportunities to support your child, events to look forward to and things to celebrate. As Covid restrictions are lifting it is an absolute pleasure to see parents join with the school community in celebrating important liturgies and assemblies. We look with a sense of anticipation to celebrate the Feast of St Anthony on 9 June due to St Anthony’s actual feast day falling on Sunday 13 June. Please mark this day down in your calendar and in the weeks ahead we will be sending out further information.
I would like to especially commend the students on how smart they look in returning to school in their winter uniform. In speaking to the students, I have reminded them about the importance of wearing their uniform with pride and making sure that it is in accordance with our school uniform policy. This includes haircuts that need to be neat and tidy, and do not draw attention to themselves.
In the first few weeks of this term I have had the pleasure to interview new and existing families who are seeking to enrol their child in Kindergarten for 2022. This enrolment process always provides the school with the wonderful opportunity to gain feedback, both positive and constructive, about the school. In the midst of these enrolment meetings it provides me with the opportunity to discuss the important partnership we need to develop between the school and parents. This relationship is, and always should be, centred around our school motto, “To grow in respect and honesty”.
Take Care
Justin Devlin
Principal

Last Friday we commemorated ANZAC Day with a whole school assembly. It was wonderful to see so many parents join us to hear Mr. Rick McCarthy, a Vietnam Vet and former parent of our school talk to the students. His main emphasis was to ask the students to say thank you to all service personnel. Those who have served in the military and those who continue to serve our country and community. The 'Honour the Fallen' initiative begun by Rick encourages students to research local servicemen and women and honour them for ANZAC day by placing an Australian flag on their grave site.
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students can use the public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact the school office.
P & F MEETING
We invite all St Anthony's parents, carers and friends to join our P & F for a meeting on Monday 3 May at 6:30 pm in the school library.
Life presents us with many joys and challenges, it may be the birth of a child, the loss of employment or the death of a family member. We are privileged to, and benefit from, living in a community that cares for us, no matter what our circumstances. At times, we may find ourselves in a position where some extra care and support would be welcomed to help us through a period of hardship or need. If you are in need of support, please contact Sister Julie on 0418 674 452 who will respond to you confidentially.
Thank you for your participation during Project Compassion 2021!
We would like to thank St Anthony’s Primary School for their commitment, enthusiasm and generosity in their effort to ‘Be More’ during Project Compassion.
With your support we can continue to empower the world’s most vulnerable people to have a hope-filled future.
Please assist us by returning your project compassion box donations. Your timely return of funds is truly appreciated. If you have already done so, thank you.

HAPPY EASTER!
DID YOU KNOW… Easter for Christians is not just one day - it's a 50-day period? The season of Easter, or Eastertide, begins at sunset on the eve of Easter and ends on Pentecost, the day we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church. The season of Easter is a time of joy and thanksgiving.
How can you incorporate moments of thanksgiving in your day?

Sacramental Programs
Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.
Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.
- Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
- Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
- Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation
A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.
The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.
St Anthony's first Sacrament for 2021 will be the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Dates are as follows;
Parent Meeting - Tuesday 4 May 2.00pm or 7:30 pm
OR
Parent Meeting - Wednesday 5 May 2:00 pm or 7.30pm
Session One - 10 - 14 May
Session Two - 17 - 21 May
Session Three - 24 - 28 May
Session Four - 31 May - 4 June
SACRAMENT - Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 June
Every year, by law, we have to receive consent from parents to photograph and use images of your child. The photos taken will be displayed in newsletters and/or Facebook to celebrate the fun times and achievements of students. Consent forms have been sent home today with your child, if you consent or do not consent to your child's photo being taken please tick the appropriate box and return the form to school.
If we do not receive a form for your child we will not include your child in photos.
The uniform shop will be open on Fridays from 9:00 am for orders that have been emailed or handed in to the office. Parents will NOT be allowed to enter the hall for any face to face purchases, as advised by the Catholic Education Office. Orders can be emailed to the school via info@sapdow.catholic.edu.au
