Newsletter Term Four Week Eight

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

As we draw towards the end of the year we always look forward to giving and receiving constructive feedback. Feedback comes in many forms and as a school community we should always seek the opportunity for open and honest dialogue. As our school motto reminds us:

“to grow in respect and honesty”

Presently our teachers are working tirelessly to complete Semester Two reports that will be ready for access via our COMPASS parent portal this Thursday 5 December from 3:00pm onwards. Our semester two reports provide an opportunity for students and parents to reflect on their learning growth in the second half of the year and to use the areas for growth feedback as a catalyst for setting learning goals for the year to come.

At a more holistic level, we would like to take the opportunity to provide parents with a forum to give feedback regarding the school. We will be sending home a survey link via the COMPASS parent portal that will allow all parents to access and complete the online line survey. My concern when sending a survey home at this time of the year is that not many parents will make it a priority to complete the survey and therefore we do not receive valid whole school data. To increase the incentive I have enlisted the help of our students. I have explained to them that if their parents complete the survey they will be entitled to receive one super dooper ice-block. A note has gone home to each family explaining this ‘incentive based approach’.

I really look forward to informing the whole school community about the respectful and honest feedback.

Take Care

Mr Justin Devlin

After the flood in 2016 the small school of Dunnedo made and sent bookmarks for our students. We would like to return these good wishes to the students from St. Michael’s who are experiencing hardship through the drought. We are asking students to bring in a book from home this week they no longer want, but that is still in good condition. We will send these to the students along with cards and letters the students have written in their library lessons.

Thank you

Mrs Anne Cordingley

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.
