Newsletter Term Four Week Four

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

Last Friday 1 November we celebrated All Saints' Day with a very moving and uplifting Mass in our school hall, followed by a scrumptious morning tea and had some time for open classrooms. We also took the time as a parish school community to recognise those wonderful Grandparents, and other special people in our lives, who share with their loved ones the gift of love and support.

The purpose behind celebrating Grandparents day on this special feast day is so that we all can be reminded of the fact that we can see the ‘saintly’ attributes in the face of those we interact with each and everyday. The term 'Saint' can apply to each of us as we strive and stumble to imitate Jesus Christ in our lives. Sometimes we do it better than at other times. Nelson Mandela put it nicely when he said, “I am not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying.” Fr Peter Tien, during his homily, reminded us all of how blessed we are to have wonderful grandparents and other special people who provide the example of sainthood through their qualities of generosity, kindness and unconditional love.

The gospel reading on Friday was the famous scripture passage, ‘The Beatitudes’. During this passage Jesus uses that lovely phrase, ‘Blessed are they …’ which is sometimes translated to ‘Happy are they …’. On Friday, after Mass I reflected on how “Happy are we …’ to have so many people who give so generously to the life of St Anthony’s.

Happy are we … to have Fr Peter who leads our spiritual and faith formation.

Happy are we … to have parents and carers who actively engage and are so

                          supportive of our  school.

Happy are we … for a staff who are dedicated and caring.

Happy are we … for our students. They are the very reason we do what we do!

We are happy to announce St Anthony's Picton has a Facebook page. Follow us today and keep up to date with school news and events.

Staff at St Anthony's fully support the CEDoW Social Media Policy to promote positive interactions online, and the standards/expectations that it (and we) will be upholding for all members of the school community using social media. For ease, the link to the policy is https://www.dow.catholic.edu.au/socialmediapolicy and the SM Statement/Standards here

Photo Consent Forms were sent home earlier this year, thank you to the parents who have signed and returned this form. This form gives us photo permission and also includes online publications (such as the website and social media). St Anthony's will be following what each child's photo consent form says in regards to posting on the official school Facebook page, unless you wish to contact the office to advise otherwise. If we have not received a signed consent form, your child will not be posted on the official Facebook page. Please click on the following link to access a copy of the photo consent form.

Over the years we have changed the style, colour and suppliers of our school hats. This means we have a few combinations of hats circulating around the school. Mr Devlin, Judy Logozzo and Kate Chrystal have worked together to  create a logo and source a hat that is made of a better material, has a sturdier brim and has a navy colour is a better match for our uniform. The staff and students are very pleased with the results and our new school hats are available to purchase at the uniform shop or school office for $15 each. Our aim is it phase in the new hat over the next two years  and we would like to emphasise that there is NO expectation for Stage Three students to buy a new hat.

Sacramental Programs

Religious Education is a priority in Catholic schools. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith and outlines what is needed to live a Catholic life. Sacramental programs are Parish based, Parish coordinated, family focused and school supported.

Each year the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation are celebrated in the Parish.

  • Year 2 Sacrament of Penance
  • Year 3 Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

A Parish based program caters to the needs of all participants. In this way children from all schools receive the same preparation for each sacrament.

The Parish based, family focused approach to Sacramental programs is widely used throughout Australia as the preferred approach. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process. Parents are the first educators of children in the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Parents involvement in Sacramental preparation is crucial in shaping the values and attitudes of each child. So it is vital, for the continual spiritual growth of the child, that the families involve themselves in the Sacramental life of Parish.

St Anthony's last Sacrament for 2019 will be the Sacrament of the Reconciliation. Dates are as follows;
