Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

This week we take the opportunity to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Catholic Schools Week (CSW) is an annual celebration of Catholic education. This year, Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong joined with dioceses and Catholic education systems and schools across the country to celebrate 200 years of Catholic education in Australia.

Mr Peter Hill, Director of Schools, said “as we pause this week to reflect on the important work of Catholic education, we remember the intergenerational contributions that preceded us and that we continue to build upon. Since the very first Catholic school was established in New South Wales in 1820, countless children and young people have benefitted from the dedication and commitment of faith-filled staff in our Catholic schools.”

St Anthony’s is one of the oldest schools in the Diocese, first providing a Catholic education for families in 1880. The rich traditions of our school stem from the very beginning when, on the initiation of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop, Sisters Veronica, Stephanie and Columba arrived in Picton and welcomed 30 pupils. It was here that the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart established a catholic school for the community of Picton.

The theme for CSW 2021 is ‘Faith in the future’. This we take the opportunity to reflect on those that have gone before us, the wonderful sense of community that exists today and the vision to what lies ahead for the catholic community of St Anthony’s.

Take Care

Justin Devlin
