Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,

On Ash Wednesday, we celebrated our Opening School Mass as a parish community. This was an important occasion because for the first time since 2019 we were able to travel to our St Anthony’s Parish Church at Tahmoor to celebrate Mass with Fr Peter and members of the parish community.

During the Mass, Fr Peter reminded the children of the special gift of being present to the sacredness of a Eucharistic celebration.   What came to my mind for me was the very gift given to us by the parish, the gift to come together as a community and celebrate Mass. This is at the very heart of who we are as a Catholic School Community. Our role is to support the parish and the families of St Anthony’s in demonstrating the rich traditions of our faith through prayer, liturgy and social interaction. As a school, St Anthony’s not only strives to be the best school it can be but unashamedly the best catholic school it can be.

Another important milestone that occurred this week was the appointment of our Parents & Friend executive for 2024. Mrs Sarah Batty was re-appointed as the P&F president, Mrs Ciara Ataria was re-appointed as the treasurer and Ms Paula Wallin and Mrs Chantelle Hagar have expressed a willingness to share the role of secretary. As a school, we are so blessed to have those who give so willingly of their time to support the school and most importantly the needs of our students. The P&F is still searching for a member of the community to nominate themselves or another person to take up the role of Vice President. Attached to this newsletter is an outline of the role and responsibilities and I strongly encourage the members of our school community to consider joining the P&F executive.

One of the key strategic goals that the school is working towards is improving parent engagement and working closely with parents to achieve the best outcomes for our students. The active involvement of parents is crucial in achieving this goal. Together, we can foster a strong sense of community, where the partnership between the school and parents is valued and nurtured.

In addition to celebrating our community and the involvement of parents, we also reflect on the significance of Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten season. This period of reflection, repentance and renewal offers us all an opportunity to deepen our spiritual lives and grow closer to God. As a Catholic school, it's essential that we embrace this season wholeheartedly, guiding our students in understanding its importance and encouraging them to participate fully in the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

As we continue our journey through the season of Lent, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to our faith, our community and our school. Together, may we grow in grace and wisdom, embodying the values of compassion, service and love that lie at the heart of our Catholic identity.

Wishing you all a blessed Lenten season filled with spiritual growth, reflection and peace.
