Christmas Story Art Exhibition & Competition
Three of our Year 6 students recently participated in The Christmas Story, 2022 - a visual arts exhibition and competition. This initiative celebrates and explores children’s creative and artistic ability in illustrating the Christmas story. We are so proud of the efforts of Aleera, Emilia and Evelyn.
This week we would like to feature the work of: Evelyn Cox
“Lighting the Way”
By Evelyn Cox
My artwork is inspired by the Scripture passage “Visit of the Magi” (Matthew 2:9-12). In this passage a bright, luminous star guides the Magi over steep, rocky and exhausting terrain in search of the newborn King Jesus. The star is a symbol of hope, encouraging the Magi to follow God’s word.
I chose to blend and layer different colours of acrylic paint in the background to represent the Magi’s emotions of joy and confusion. I used gold leafing flakes as a symbol of Christ’s kingship on Earth.
As I reflect on this passage I empathise with the challenges the Magi faced. It teaches me to stay faithful to the word of God no matter how ‘steep, rocky and exhausting’ the terrain may be.
The star is bright and glows infinitely. As the Magi travel and follow God, they begin to feel a part of the light. By following God and his teachings we too can become a part of the light!
