Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,
In the wider community this week we celebrate two significant events, Child Protection Week and on Thursday 8 September, R U OK! Day.
Child Protection Week provides the opportunity to recognise and affirm each and every member of our school community who offers care and concern to our students; and the many people who make extraordinary efforts in the pastoral care and support of our students, their safety and wellbeing. In 2022, National Child Protection Week will continue to embrace the overarching message that ‘Every child, in every community, needs a fair go’. In particular, this year we will be shining a light on children growing up safe and supported. Children and young people thrive when they grow up safe, connected and supported in their family, community and culture. They have the right to grow up in environments that support them according to their needs, now and into the future. The dedication and efforts of many people working together, putting children first, means that we are better able to assist with our students’ safety and wellbeing.”
In speaking about safety and wellbeing, Thursday’s R U Ok! day focuses on encouraging us to take time and connect with friends, family, and colleagues. It's about LISTENING, ENCOURAGING ACTION, and then STAYING CONNECTED, because research indicates that genuine care and concern can make a real difference. In scripture we read about when we display this act of kindness to others, we are seeing the face of Christ. To have a kind heart means to ask the difficult question, R u OK? unsure of what the response will be. The challenge starts with asking the question.
I encourage all families to say this prayer together:
WE WALK TOGETHER HELD IN LOVE
PRAYER FOR R U OK? DAY 2022
We walk together in hope…
Just as Jesus walked with others and asked them what they needed
Today we pray that we may be guided by the Spirit to do the same.
We walk together in compassion…
We walk with those who feel lost,
overwhelmed or alone.
And we endeavour to create a space
where others can be real.
We walk together in love…
We listen, because people matter.
We walk with each other,
because connection matters.
And we ask “RUOK”, because we care.
We reach out…
We reach out in love to those we know.
We pray for those we cannot reach.
And we practice self-compassion,
as we carry our own pain.
We ask each other “R U OK?”
Leaving space for more to say.
We trust that God is walking with us
every step of the way
Whispering to our hearts,
“Do not be afraid, I am with you.”
We hold each other, today, in love.
And we are held in love by the Compassionate One.
Today we stand together, held in love.
Take Care
Mr Justin Devlin
